Giving is part of the grace that every believer is called to partake and abound in. We can’t truly enjoy our christian life here on earth and also lay up treasure for ourselves against the future times if we refuse to allow the grace for giving to find expression through us.

As good and highly rewarding as giving is, it can be abused and perverted. And we have seen this happen over the years. Giving is usually abused when the motive and purpose for giving are distorted.

Giving must be driven by compassion. The motive for giving must be because we have genuine compassion for souls, souls of the perishing, souls of the poor, souls of preachers etc. We don’t give out of a motive to corner God and compel him to do our bidding as some have been made to believe.

While it is true that God is not a debtor and will repay us for every thing that we give towards His name, we must understand that the decision to repay us is God’s prerogative and not ours. We don’t define what or how God must repay us before, during or after we have given of our substance towards any cause that He delights in.

Our fundamental persuasion for giving must be because we are looking forward to a better and enduring substance in Heaven. It must be because we are laying up treasures in our heavenly account, which is eternal.

The truth also is that while we are enjoying eternal life now, we can also enjoy withdrawals from our heavenly account as and when the need arises.

Stop looking for those who are turning giving to merchandise, who take advantage of our ignorance and greed. They present giving as a money multiplying exercise to the gullible. They are always glad to give people who sowed into their ministry and got instant breakthroughs opportunity to share their testimonies as a means of appealing to the gullibility and greed of the unsuspecting.

Don’t get me wrong, God can reward you with so much abundance beyond your imagination within a short space of time. He is God Almighty and there is nothing too difficult for Him. But you must understand that such reward from the Lord is not a fruit of such giving that is driven by ignorance & greed but that which is driven by knowledge & faithfulness.

Be a sacrificial giver that is willing to gladly and joyfully sell what you have like the believers in the early church just because you are driven by knowledge, a knowledge that you are crediting your account in Heaven, a knowledge that you are laying up in store for yourself a good foundation against the time to come so that you may lay hold on eternal life. (1 Timothy  6:19).

God bless you.
